Katarzyna Żyłka, PhD, Eng., graduated from both the Food Technology and Human Nutrition Department (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn) and Dietetics Department (Gdynia Maritime University). She also completed postgraduate studies. Dietary Counseling – Advances in Human Nutrition (Institute of Food and Nutrition), postgraduate studies in nutrition and dietary support in sports (University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk), and two-level postgraduate studies related to linguistic editing of texts (University of Warsaw). In 2021, she defended her doctoral dissertation at Gdynia Maritime University on the behavior and attitudes of young people towards energy drinks, thus obtaining a doctorate in social sciences in the discipline of management and quality science.
She gained professional experience in dietetics, among other places, while working in a hospital and in the Sopkard 15 project, managed by the Department of Hypertension and Diabetology at the Medical University of Gdańsk. As part of two editions of the aforementioned program, she worked with young people, providing nutritional education and dietary counseling targeted at this age group. Currently, she continues her work focusing on nutritional education for children and adolescents. She is a member of the Polish Lipidology Society and the Polish Society of Food Technologists. She conducts research, the results of which are published in journals related to disciplines such as health sciences and food and nutrition technology. She also presents her research results at national and international scientific conferences. In February 2023, she gave an interview, which led to the article "Poland bans energy drinks for under 18s," published in The Lancet, one of the most prestigious medical journals.
