Podiatry

Podiatry is a specialized field of knowledge that deals with the diagnosis of foot defects, deformities and dysfunctions, the treatment of existing conditions, and the care of healthy and diseased feet. Due to the increasing number of seniors in our society and the spread of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, chronic venous disease, atherosclerosis, and postural and foot deformities, the demand for podiatry specialists is increasing.

Postgraduate studies in Podiatry provide knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of lower limb conditions, as well as foot care. Students will learn the methodology of podiatry procedures, allowing them to begin independent practice in this field. The main advantage of postgraduate studies in Podiatry is its comprehensive approach to the subject matter and the skillful combination of theoretical and practical classes, led by experienced lecturers and specialists.

After completing postgraduate studies in Podiatry, graduates will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to:

  • diagnosis of foot diseases and defects
  • diagnosing, planning and conducting podiatry therapy
  • designing an individual orthopedic insole
  • providing the patient with instructions on foot and leg care
  • the use of specialized cosmetic preparations and basic pharmaceuticals
  • performing therapeutic, corrective and care treatments that relieve particularly vulnerable areas

Graduates have the opportunity to take up professional employment in:

  • podiatry offices
  • health and beauty clinics and institutes
  • SPA and Wellness salons
  • sanatoriums and health resorts
  • cosmetics companies (in development or training departments)

In postgraduate studies not only you will deepen your knowledge, But you will also increase your chances of getting promoted or changing jobs.

TREATMENT PRACTICE

During the subject classes Surgical practice we work on models/patients.
We invite all people struggling with various foot and nail diseases to participate in the classes as models/patients, in particular:

  • ingrown or twisted nails (inflammation is welcome),

PROFESSIONAL PODIUM PREPARATIONS AND EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING:

DIABETIC FOOT CARE

The topic of the workshop with the students was the management of patients with diabetic foot syndrome using wound hygiene. I was able to conduct the workshop with the support of representatives from two companies: Iwona Klotzke from Convatec and Anna Nagórska from Schuelke. Anna is also a Lead Auditor for the WHO, which leads the Global Patient Safety Initiative, and a Lead Auditor for the WHO Hand Hygiene Strategy. This allowed us to review, together with the students, how to perform proper hand hygiene procedures.

Both women supported today's session with valuable advice and guidelines from scientific societies, including the Polish Wound Management Society, on care, infection prevention, patient education for diabetes and diabetic foot, and the organization of a safe podiatry office. We utilized practical solutions regarding broadly defined hygiene practices in a podiatry office, including disinfection, hygiene products, and patient care and regeneration measures. Organizing work in a podiatry office requires a professional to have extensive knowledge of the clinic, care, and the appropriate care and antibacterial agents for suspected infections. It also requires future podiatrists to understand how an interdisciplinary team works together to ensure patient safety. Today's session also included practical workshops on patient safety in a podiatry office. We discussed the competencies and authorizations of podiatrists in light of the law and related formal and legal provisions.
All students received a CERTIFICATE.

ORTHONYXIA

During practical classes in orthonyxia, we learn how to make, among other things, the Rosa Fraser brace.

STUDIES ARE NOT EVERYTHING...

We would like to share with you information about a new project that was implemented in cooperation with Pomeranian Hospitals.
Postgraduate Podiatry students had the opportunity to participate in a unique internship. Under the supervision of Aleksandra Fenska, they performed a variety of podiatry treatments aimed at improving the condition of patients' feet. 👣.
They performed nail plate treatments, sole treatments, and specialized diabetic foot care, among other procedures. After completing the procedures, they provided patients with recommendations and suggested cosmetics that could be useful in daily foot care.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment and effort of our students. Their work on this project not only brings real benefits to patients but also contributes to the development of podiatry as a scientific field.
We are convinced that this project is just the beginning of further pro-social initiatives implemented by our University.
