MBA in Healthcare

The healthcare sector currently faces numerous challenges – an aging population, rising medical costs, pressure to improve service quality, and the need to implement innovation. Professional management training is becoming a key factor for success. 
MBA in Healthcare – is a postgraduate program whose key goal is to acquire key managerial competencies for modern leaders in the medical sector. The Gdańsk Medical University of Applied Sciences (formerly the Gdańsk University of Health) has launched this program in the winter semester of 2025/2026.

The study program, based on the experience and knowledge of outstanding specialists, is aimed at people who want to effectively manage medical facilities, health projects, and interdisciplinary teams in a dynamically changing healthcare environment.
Divided into five key modules, the program combines elements of business education with the knowledge and practice necessary to effectively manage institutions operating in the public and private healthcare systems.

Dr. Mirosław Borkowski

Doctor of Laws, specialist in public health (National Specialist Examination of the Ministry of Health); practitioner and theoretician specializing in human rights, health security, and health in its broadest sense (including medical law, pharmaceutical law, cosmetic law, etc.), as well as intellectual property law. A university teacher with many years of experience, he is a university professor and visiting professor. For many years, he has been involved in the rights of people with disabilities, including as the Rector's Representative for People with Disabilities. He actively participates in the work of associations dealing with issues related to the education of students with disabilities.

Tomasz Augustyniak, M.A.

He graduated with a Master's degree in law from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, completed doctoral studies in law, and completed postgraduate studies in management and law in healthcare, hygiene and epidemiology, and labor law. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from the WSB University in Toruń and an Executive MBA in healthcare management. His previous career includes working as an entrepreneur, an employee of the State Trade Inspection in Gdańsk, and a trainer. For nearly 14 years, he was also professionally associated with the State Sanitary Inspectorate, serving as the Pomeranian Voivodeship State Sanitary Inspector from 2015 to 2021. He also served as Deputy Director of the Department of Health at the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, where his responsibilities included corporate governance over healthcare entities. From 2022 until taking up his duties at the Gdynia City Hall, he served as President of the Management Board of the Pomeranian Rheumatology Center. Dr. Jadwiga Titz-Kosko in Sopot Sp. z o. o.

Dr. Ernest Podgorski

Doctor of Management Sciences, academic lecturer, certified auditor. He supervises the audits of corporate financial statements and the audits of projects co-financed by the European Union and research funds implemented by medical universities.
He has completed a number of specialized courses in IAS/IFRS, SOX, fraud audit, internal controls, corporate governance, and the Single European Reporting Format (ESEF), including XBRL. He has been a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners since 2019. From August 2022 to June 2024, he served as Vice President of Finance at PZU Zdrowie Spółka Akcyjna, where he successfully led the company's restructuring.

Krzysztof Suszek, M.A.

Public relations and marketing communications expert, trainer, consultant, lecturer. Narratologist. Founder and Chairman of the Board of the "Misja Medyczna" Foundation. Expert at the Rafał Piotr Janiszewski Advisory Firm.
Co-author of the nationwide "Healthy and Active Commune" campaign, a project aimed at counteracting the effects of obesity among children and adolescents. He has been involved in marketing communications for almost 30 years.
Lecturer, author of studies and presentations on communication in local governments, government administration, and hospitals. From 2008 to 2012, he was responsible for communication at the Ministry of Health. Author of several social campaigns, including "Your Blood – My Life.".

Dr. Sławomir Koroluk

Attorney and doctor of law (2000), academic teacher continuously since 2000, specialist in civil and insurance law, currently manager of a primary health care facility 

Piotr Pusty, M.A.

A specialist with over 15 years of experience in financial management and process optimization in the healthcare sector.. He holds a degree in economics, supplemented by postgraduate studies in management accounting and an accounting certificate issued by the Ministry of Finance. His professional experience includes implementing dozens of recovery programs for public hospitals throughout Poland. He co-created the Unified Charts of Accounts and uniform reporting models for healthcare entities subordinate to the local governments of the Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, and Pomeranian Voivodeships. Commissioned by the Ministry of National Defense, in cooperation with the Supreme Audit Office, he conducted a review of the economic situation of healthcare entities subordinate to the Ministry of National Defense. I collaborated with the Department of Health Policy of the Marshal's Office of the Łódź Voivodeship, where I was responsible for monitoring current operations.

Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski

Chief Sanitary Inspector. Graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw, doctor of medical sciences, pediatric specialist, and expert in infection prevention. From 1989 to 1998, he was an assistant, then assistant professor at the Children's Clinical Hospital in Warsaw, and subsequently head of the Department of Infection Prevention and Nosocomial Infections at the National Institute of Medicine in Warsaw. Academic lecturer since 2001, including at the Faculty of Public Health at the Medical University of Warsaw, the Postgraduate Program in Medical Law at the University of Warsaw, and Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University. He collaborates with the Center for Monitoring Quality in Healthcare. 
Author or co-author of over 250 scientific publications in national and international medical journals in the fields of immunology, vaccination, infection prevention, therapy, and control, as well as hospital-acquired infections. A proponent of medical knowledge, he is a recipient of the "Great Educator" award from the Association of Journalists for Health.

Dr. Tomasz Kopiec, Ph.D.

Director of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital named after Prof. W. Orłowski, Center for Postgraduate Medical Education in Warsaw, plenipotentiary of the Chancellor of the Medical University of Lodz for the development of the senior economy, assistant at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Medical University of Lodz, assistant professor at the School of Public Health, CMKP.

A graduate of the Medical University of Lodz in Public Health and an Executive Master of Business Administration – Healthcare Management program, he has been involved in the healthcare sector for over 20 years. He specializes in the restructuring, optimization, and management of healthcare facilities. He is responsible for the implementation and supervision of optimization processes in dozens of Polish hospitals. Experienced in securing multi-million zloty restructuring funds. He is a proponent of Public-Private Partnerships as a framework for implementing and financing investments in public services, utilizing artificial intelligence and new technologies in healthcare facility management, and supporting new process and product solutions in the area of digitalization. He is a member of the Board of the Polish Hospital Federation. He was recognized on the 2024 List of the 100 Most Influential People in the Polish Healthcare System.

Luiza Olichwier-Skwierawska, M.A.

Development manager, trainer, and facilitator of design thinking with over 15 years of experience. She has collaborated with Google, Nordea IT, Nationale Nederlanden, Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdańsk City Hall, and the Puck Hospice, among others. Her passion is sharing knowledge and designing solutions that actually work.

Piotr Ławacz, M.A.

Coach Executive and life coach (since 2008) conducting his activities using a methodology consistent with the standards of the International Coach Federation (in the process of Master Certified Coach accreditation). Over 2,600 hours of qualified individual and group coaching and hundreds of hours of skills coaching (including management and sales).
Business trainer Since 1993, he has conducted approximately 2,300 training days – training sessions and workshops in the field of business psychology, management, and sales (especially strategic, B2B and B2C). He has trained and designed training sessions for managers and specialists in corporations, medium-sized companies, and small businesses.
Consultant in the field of human resources management in Polish and foreign companies, local government institutions and state offices – projects for the development of professional competences, periodic assessment systems, motivational strategies and tools, recruitment, restructuring and ownership transformation processes in the organization and others.

Ewelina Bałazy, M.A.

Graduate of administration, master's degree in management and quality sciences. She completed postgraduate studies in medical law, hygiene and epidemiology, and healthcare management. She is qualified as a lead auditor for ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001.

For over a decade, she has been working with healthcare providers, supporting them in management and the implementation and auditing of management systems. Professionally, she works in the healthcare sector, serving as the Director's Representative for Integrated Management Systems in hospitals and emergency medical services. She has practical experience in running a business and extensive training experience. She provides training for educational institutions and private companies, including in ISO standards, entrepreneurship, occupational health and safety, medical law, and labor law.

Detailed information about the course MBA in Healthcare provides:

Number of semesters of study: 3
Number of teaching hours covered by the program: 344
Form of studies: Lectures will be conducted part-time online, with exercises and workshops conducted in a hybrid format (online or on-site). Classes will be held on Fridays from 5:00 PM to 8:15 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays. 
In exceptional cases, the university reserves the right to organize an additional meeting during the semester.

Graduation: 
The condition for completing the studies is obtaining credits in all subjects covered by the study program and passing the exam in the form of a case study with discussion (solving a managerial problem) based on a list of issues provided to the students.

PRACTICAL

In the 2025/2026 academic year, we launched the MBA in Healthcare postgraduate program – a program aimed at managers, leaders, and those aspiring to manage in the medical sector.
Last weekend, the first on-site meeting took place, which was an intense time of work, exchange of experiences and gaining practical skills.
The workshops were led by: Paweł Grzesiowski, MD, PhD – Chief Sanitary Inspector, Tomasz Kopiec, PhD, and Ewelina Bałazy, MA.
It was a time of sharing substantive knowledge, inspiring discussions, and familiarization with tools for everyday management practice. Participants had the opportunity to develop strategic competencies, hone leadership skills, and analyze the real challenges facing the healthcare system.
