The Gdansk Medical Academy of Applied Sciences cordially invites you to a new postgraduate course Child and Youth Psychology – Standards and Innovations in Practice. A team of experts has prepared a unique postgraduate program that will provide students with a solid theoretical foundation and practical skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and psychological support of children and adolescents, based on the latest trends and standards in psychological work. Child and adolescent psychology is constantly evolving, and combining ethical and competency standards with innovative therapeutic methods can significantly improve the quality of interventions and support for this age group.

PROGRAM CONTENT

The study program is focused on:

  • developing communication skills and building relationships with children, young people and their families to effectively support them in overcoming emotional and social difficulties,
  • promoting cooperation with other specialists and institutions to create comprehensive support programs that take into account the diverse needs of children and young people,
  • enabling students to develop ethical and professional standards in the work of a psychologist, taking into account the legal aspects and specificity of working with children and young people.

KNOWLEDGE

  • knowledge of current standards in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, which allows for appropriate therapeutic decisions,
  • tools and methods of psychological diagnosis, as well as the ability to identify deficits and design personalized psychological support,
  • legal aspects of a psychologist's work, which ensures responsibility and compliance with applicable regulations when working with children and young people.

SKILLS

  • conducting a comprehensive psychological diagnosis and implementing appropriate therapeutic programs,
  • using psychological diagnostic tools and methods, as well as the ability to identify deficits and design personalized psychological support,
  • collaborating with families and other professionals within interdisciplinary teams to create integrated support for children.

COMPETENCES

  • an ethical approach to work, with respect for the rights and needs of children and their families, which allows for building trust and effective cooperation,
  • the ability to act in crisis situations, identify and respond to difficulties in a flexible and situation-specific manner,
  • the ability to reflect on one’s own practice and strive for continuous professional development, which facilitates effective intervention and support for children and young people in difficult moments of their lives.

PRACTICE

  • enabling the effective application of acquired knowledge in real clinical conditions,
  • working with diverse groups of children and youth, including multi-problem families and low-motivated children,
  • enabling the creation and implementation of support programmes, as well as obtaining funds for the activation of projects supporting the development of children and their families.

PATRONAGE

We are pleased and satisfied to announce that the Aleksandra FOSA Social Support Foundation has become the patron of education in the field of Child and Youth Psychology – Standards and Innovations in Practice.

FOSA Foundation is a non-governmental organization that provides support in the field of mental health. Currently, the Fosa Foundation implements projects and tasks for children and young people with mental illnesses and disorders, among other things.

The combination of professional education with the practical experience of Fosa Foundation experts will enrich the implementation of the postgraduate program and prepare students to develop communication skills and build relationships with children, young people and their families in order to effectively support them in overcoming emotional and social difficulties.

COOPERATION AGREEMENT

The Gdańsk Medical University of Applied Sciences (formerly the Gdańsk University of Health) will educate students in close cooperation with the therapeutic team The Challenges of Growing Up, with whom it signed a cooperation agreement in the areas of, among others: evaluation of the educational program and concept, consulting activities, increasing opportunities for practical training, undertaking activities aimed at activating students and providing them with access to professional knowledge and acquiring skills.

Barbara PiskorskaI am a psychologist and sociotherapist from Gdańsk. I have completed the basic course in individual and family systemic psychotherapy (WTTS), the "School of Consultation for Psychologists" training, the "ABC of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy," and the "Systemic Anxiety Therapy" training. I have completed the first part of the basic EMDR therapy training and the "Applying EMDR in Work with Children and Adolescents" levels I and II. I am a member of the Polish EMDR Therapy Association. I continually educate myself and improve my qualifications.

From the beginning, my professional path has been associated with supporting young people through crises in Gdańsk. For 12 years, I have been working with children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises, those in foster care, those facing developmental challenges, and those experiencing emotional, social, and family difficulties.

Kamil KrajewskiI'm a psychologist and psychotherapist from Gdańsk. After graduating with a master's degree, I completed a four-year psychotherapy training program. My training institution is the Institute of Group Analysis in Rasztów. I also have a degree in philosophy, which greatly helps me professionally. Thanks to it, I don't forget how great and worthy of recognition each and every one of us is.

I began my professional career working at a center supporting children and youth in Gdańsk. Throughout my professional development, I conducted psychoeducation, sociotherapy, and psychotherapy, as well as TUS training for children, adolescents, and adults. Working in the non-governmental organization sector – the FOSA Foundation – I learned to become a better psychologist from a variety of kind and open-minded individuals.

GRADUATE PROFILE

Graduate and Postgraduate Studies Graduate in the field of Child and Youth Psychology – Standards and Innovations in Practice They will be well-prepared to work in the field of child and adolescent mental health, both in public and private institutions. They will acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills to conduct a diagnosis, design a support plan, and implement it.

Graduate and Graduate of the course Child and Youth Psychology – Standards and Innovations in Practice They possess updated knowledge of the latest diagnostic standards, methods of working with children and youth, and current challenges in a dynamically changing social and family environment. They understand and are familiar with contemporary socio-technological phenomena affecting children and youth. They possess knowledge of inter-institutional collaboration for the mental health of children and youth. They are also able to utilize innovative methods and techniques, as well as modern technologies, in their work. Graduates possess the ability to work with unmotivated individuals and engage caregivers and parents in collaboration.

Form of studies: part-time (classes every 2 weeks)
Classes will be conducted in a hybrid format.
Framework hours of classes: Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Saturdays and/or Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Duration: 2 semesters
Number of hours: 220 (107 hours of lectures, 113 hours of exercises)
The condition for obtaining a certificate of completion of postgraduate studies in the field of Child and Youth Psychology – Standards and Innovations in Practice is to pass the subjects included in the study program and pass the final test.

Our offer is addressed to all university graduates (bachelor's, engineering, master's).
We especially invite you to study psychologists, psychotherapists and therapists, who want to expand their knowledge and skills in psychological work with children and adolescents.
