Dietetics – second-cycle studies
The University of Health invites you to study dietetics at the master's level. The program lasts two years (four semesters) and is offered both full-time and part-time.
Nutrition is one of the most important human needs. What we eat affects our bodies and our functioning in the world. So what should we eat and what should we avoid to be healthy? How much truth is there in the saying "you are what you eat"? Where do diseases like obesity and overweight come from, and how can they be avoided and treated? What diseases can untreated obesity lead to? These are questions that many people ask themselves. As civilization advances, so does the standard of living, and consequently, public awareness. The last decade has seen an extremely dynamic development in dietetics, hence the enormous demand for the profession of dietitian, for specialists who can answer these questions and many others.
Through your studies, you will gain a thorough understanding of the functioning of the human body at the genetic and cellular level. You will understand the principles of inheritance and the characteristics of genetic diseases. You will learn the principles of healthy nutrition for individuals in specific environmental conditions and the nutrition of athletes – depending on the type of sport they perform. You will gain knowledge about eating disorders, drug-food interactions, and the technological processes and methods used in food production. You will learn how to help someone who is ill, addicted, or experiencing psychological problems. We will introduce you to laboratory testing methods and their importance in the diagnosis, monitoring, prognosis, and prevention of various disorders.
We will ensure both theoretical and practical aspects of the course – in addition to expanding and consolidating your knowledge, you will develop and acquire new skills. You will learn how to conduct a nutritional interview and provide dietary advice to groups and individuals. You will learn how to assess, plan, and implement appropriate nutritional management tailored to the needs of healthy and sick (with various medical conditions) adults of all ages, including the elderly. You will learn how to assess the nutritional value of menus and determine nutrient needs based on individual circumstances. You will be able to determine food quality and its safety in terms of storage and processing.
