Educational workshops in the 2024/2025 school year
APRIL 15, 2025.
The last week before the Easter break is the perfect time for a school trip. Ideally, it should also have educational value. The University of Health in Gdańsk is here to help! 😉 You can take your students to engaging workshops and help them better understand the secrets of healthy eating! 🙂
Students from the Nowy Dwór Gdański High School took an inspiring trip to Gdańsk. In the chemistry lab at the Gdańsk Vocational School, they sought answers to the question: "Do you know what you eat?" – during a workshop led by Dr. Katarzyna Żyłka, a specialist in human nutrition, lecturer, and coordinator of the dietetics program at the Gdańsk University of Health.
How can you tell the "age" of a chicken egg by examining it under an ovoscope? Which bread is healthier – stale or fresh? How can you distinguish genuine saffron from adulterated saffron? Together, we found scientific answers to these and many other questions. The laboratory sessions on food composition and quality began with a short theoretical lecture, followed by practical exercises filled with knowledge and fascinating facts from the world of science.
A visit to the University of Health in Gdańsk is a great opportunity to combine fun with learning! See you there!
APRIL 14, 2025.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, we had the great pleasure of hosting two groups of students from the Vocational and General Secondary School Complex in Kartuzy for practical workshops in physiotherapy and first aid.
The workshop on the role of massage and self-massage in therapy and health promotion was led by Aleksandra Moluszys, M.A., physiotherapist and lecturer, coordinator of the physiotherapy program at the WSZ in Gdańsk. The students had the opportunity to practice their acquired knowledge and skills during practical exercises in the physiotherapy studio, where they discussed techniques, holds, and accessories used in simple loosening and relaxation massage. Each student had the chance to learn how to perform a simple massage or self-massage. This is an important experience for young people who spend a lot of time studying and staring at screens and are unsure how to relax their muscles during the heightened stress of tests or exams at school. The students learned that massage is not an easy technique, and that professional exploration of the topic requires extensive study material, including human anatomy. The group's engagement and pleasant atmosphere fostered effective practical learning. I hope they have many more such positive experiences on their educational journey.
Simultaneously, in the first aid lab, a second group of students from the Primary School of Vocational Education and Training (ZSZiO) in Kartuzy participated in a workshop on rescue operations. The workshop was led by Daniel Zelewski, a paramedic and nursing student at the WSZ in Gdańsk. The initial discussion covered the principles of first aid: calling an emergency medical team, personal and casualty safety, legal aspects, and the proper way to provide first aid, as well as the use of AEDs. The students then performed exercises on professional training manikins that realistically imitate the human body during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Practical exercises on various manikins – for infants, children, and adults of varying weights – allowed them to refine their rescue techniques. It's important to be prepared for the possibility of an accident, and practice is the best way to manage emotions in stressful situations, ensuring a quick response and timely delivery of appropriate assistance.

This isn't an April Fool's joke. High school graduates from District School Complex No. 2 in Rumia came to us for a dietetics workshop. The lecture and practical exercises, "Do you know what you eat? Laboratory classes on food composition," were led by Dr. Eng. Katarzyna Żyłka – a specialist in human nutrition, lecturer, and coordinator of the Dietetics program at the University of Health in Gdańsk. During the visit to the university, she also toured professionally equipped specialist laboratories, learned about the educational offerings of the University of Health in Gdańsk, and the terms and conditions of enrollment.
MARCH 31, 2025.
On Monday, March 31st, we hosted students from the Marcin Gortat School of Sports Championship in Gdańsk at Campus B on Piastowska Street. The students themselves chose a workshop topic from the high school final year program, based on their interests, which center around sports, physical activity, movement, and the human body. It's no surprise that the choice fell on physiotherapy workshops – recovery after physical activity is a crucial aspect for every athlete. A mini lecture on the role of massage and self-massage in therapy and health promotion, as well as exercises in the physiotherapy studio, "How to perform a simple massage? Techniques, holds, accessories," was led by Aleksandra Moluszys, M.A. – physiotherapist, lecturer and coordinator of the physiotherapy course at the WSZ in Gdańsk.

March and April are a busy time for meetings with high school graduates, not only at educational fairs but also on campus during classes dedicated to upper secondary school students. As a university with a practical profile, we place great emphasis on hands-on activities. Therefore, we organize workshops during which participants acquire new skills that they can then practice outside of the university, regardless of their chosen educational path.
On Thursday, March 27th, we were visited by high school students majoring in hairdressing from the District School Complex No. 2 in Rumia. A wellness workshop on "SPA Therapist – Physiotherapist, Massage Therapist, or Cosmetologist?" was led by Magdalena Kamińska, M.A. – cosmetologist and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Gdańsk. After a brief theoretical introduction, during the practical part of the workshop, participants made natural stamps for massage, and then learned about stamp massage techniques with aromatherapy. After the workshop, the students learned about the educational offerings of the University of Applied Sciences in Gdańsk, visited specialized labs dedicated to various fields of study, and received information on the application requirements and deadlines.
MARCH 26, 2025.
Last Wednesday, students from the 15th General Secondary School in Gdańsk visited the University of Health in Gdańsk. So many students were interested in the workshops that two workshop groups were formed, simultaneously learning the secrets of kinesiotherapy and beauty cosmetology in two locations.
A presentation on "A Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body – Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders" was held in the physiotherapy lab on Campus B. Students then used neurological hammers to test their reflexes, including the famous knee jerk reflex seen in the film. Students also performed simple strengthening and relaxation exercises, which can be repeated during breaks from studying to maintain mobility and physical fitness.
The lecture and exercises were led by Marcin Szymborski, M.A. – physiotherapist, lecturer at the WSZ in Gdańsk. After the classes, the students met with the second group at the premises on Pelplińska Street, listened together in the Auditorium to a presentation on the courses and admission requirements, and visited the specialized workshops where practical classes are held.
During the visit of students from the 15th General Secondary School in Gdańsk, two practical workshops took place simultaneously. One group discovered the secrets of kinesiotherapy, while the skincare cosmetology studio hosted classes on building habits for proper skincare for young skin in summer and winter. After a short introductory lecture, the students enthusiastically moved on to the practical part – under the watchful eye of the lecturer, they performed a skin cleansing treatment to introduce new healthy habits into their daily skincare routine. The lecture and exercises were led by Olga Dębska, M.A. – cosmetologist, lecturer at the WSZ in Gdańsk.
Finally, both groups joined together in the Auditorium and listened to a short presentation of the educational offerings of the University of Health in Gdańsk. The students also received information on the admission requirements and toured the specialized laboratories where practical classes are held. They returned with small gifts.

On Tuesday, December 17th, we had the pleasure of hosting this year's high school graduates from the Pomeranian School of Crafts for a cosmetics formulation workshop led by Dr. Paulina Bastian, a lecturer at the University of Health in Gdańsk. During a lecture on various cosmetic formulations and cosmetics production, participants gained insight into the fascinating world of beauty and chemistry. Practical exercises in the formulation workshop allowed students to create their own eco-friendly cosmetics: a protective lip balm and a natural, nourishing hand cream – based on Dr. Bastian's original recipe. After the workshop, students had the opportunity to visit other specialized laboratories on campus. Recruitment for the winter semester of 2025/2026 won't begin until the second half of March 2025, but the topic is already exciting for the high school graduates. There were questions and answers.
