Day of People with Disabilities and Special Needs WSZ, May 28, 2025.

The event's theme was "Safety," and thanks to the involvement of our speakers – experts and practitioners – we were able to explore the topic of providing assistance in life-threatening situations.

The action is carried out as part of Task No. 7 "Systemic support for raising awareness of the university community" of the project entitled: "Higher School of Health in Gdańsk - accessible and friendly" No. FERS.03.01-IP.08-0104/24 co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Social Development 2021-2027 and from the state budget.

10:05 First aid without barriers – how to provide first aid to victims with disabilities and special needs, Łukasz Wodziński, M.A., paramedic, lecturer at the University of Health in Gdańsk.
10:20 Safe escape – evacuation from hard-to-reach places, Paul Rudo, Officer of the State Fire Service.
10:35 Behind the scenes of 112 – how the emergency notification system works, Marcin Michalski, Coordinator, trainer at the emergency call center.
10:50 Summer threats under control – first aid for heatstroke, burns, bites and more, Łukasz Wodziński, M.A., paramedic, lecturer at the University of Health in Gdańsk.

WORKSHOP AND SHOW AREA
10:00-14:00 Workshop on evacuating a victim from a smoke-filled room - learn how to act in a crisis situation!
Step into a specially prepared tent filled with safe, odorless smoke and face the challenge that rescuers face every day. Under the guidance of instructors, you'll learn how to effectively and safely evacuate a victim with limited visibility—whether lying on a mat or using a wheelchair. This is a unique opportunity to experience the conditions of a real fire hazard and gain practical skills that can save lives.
The workshop is adapted to various levels of physical fitness – what counts is the willingness to act and the willingness to learn!

12:00 – Become a Chest Compression Master!
Take part in an exciting first aid competition – test your effectiveness in performing chest compressions during cardiac arrest in an adult. Using a specialized manikin, we'll assess the rhythm, depth, and quality of compressions, and the best participants will take the podium!
Prizes and the title of WSZ 2025 Chest Compression Champion await the winners!
This is a great opportunity to test your skills, learn something new, and experience the spirit of healthy competition. Everyone is welcome to participate – precision, reflexes, and the desire to save lives are key! Join us and show us your skills when every second counts!

– Evacuation from the 5th floor in virtual reality – test yourself in extreme conditions!
Immerse yourself in the world of virtual reality and experience what it's like to evacuate from a height in dangerous conditions! Thanks to modern VR technology, you'll experience a realistic simulation of escaping from the 5th floor of a burning building – risk-free, but with a powerful adrenaline rush. This is a perfect opportunity to safely and engagingly experience the importance of quick reaction, self-control, and knowledge of evacuation procedures. We guarantee a thrilling experience and unforgettable emotions!

– First aid without barriers – how to provide first aid to victims with disabilities and special needs. A practical workshop where you'll learn how to effectively and safely provide first aid to people with mobility impairments. We'll practice various scenarios, including those involving a wheelchair, and you'll learn techniques tailored to the needs of people with limited mobility.
