Course program

DAY 1 hr. 9:00 – 17:00
1. Introduction to the Knee – Theory – Basic Science 
-basics of functional anatomy and biomechanics,             
-palpation anatomy – key points.             
2. How to interpret the results of imaging tests in the context of various knee joint diseases?
-analysis of additional tests – interpretation of X-ray/MRI/ultrasound using examples – case studies. 
3. Overview of knee injuries
– the most common pathologies and mechanisms of knee joint injuries: 
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial and lateral meniscus, ITBS, Osgood-Shlatter / Sinding – Larsen – Johansen, patellar tendon tendinopathy, 
PFP (patellofemoral pain), joint cartilage, soft tissue inflammation, arthrofibrosis.
4. Risk Factors and Prevention of Knee Injuries
– identification of the main risk factors that may lead to knee joint injuries.
-discussion of effective strategies for preventing and reducing the risk of knee joint injuries.
5. Knee joint examination in practice – Clinical Diagnostics and Functional Tests
-Learning to conduct effective tests and clinical assessments that will help identify problems related to knee joint function. 
– using the results of functional tests to develop a personalized treatment plan.

  • Manual assessment of the joint and soft tissues – orthopedic tests and tests crucial for a given disease entity

DAY 2, hrs. 9:00 – 15:00 
1. Knee joint after surgeryPractical procedures after the most common surgical procedures in the knee joint (ACLR, meniscus) 
-ACLR (anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction)
-medial and lateral meniscus (meniscectomy and meniscal repair)
-arthrofibrosis 
2. Conservative treatment in selected knee joint problems – first phase exercises, training programs, manual therapy
– ITBS 
– PFPS
– Patellar tendon tendinopathy
– Osgood-Shlatter / Sinding-Larsen-Johansen
3. Use of additional tools and methods to improve conservative treatment of knee joint problems. 
– manual therapy techniques and soft tissue therapy, including: joint mobilizations: patellofemoral joint, tibiofemoral joint, distal tibiofibular joint, meniscal mobilizations, ankle joint mobilizations
– working with the scar
– taping – Rigid/Soft/Kinesiotaping – including: McConnell taping, fat pad lifting and others,
– Basics – Return to Sport / Return to Work

Planning and implementing Exercise Therapy:
- learning about various methods of exercise therapy, including exercises that strengthen, stabilize and improve the mobility of the knee joint,
-considering individual cases and selecting appropriate exercises for different patients,

Planning long-term rehabilitation:
-developing individual care and rehabilitation plans for patients with various knee joint conditions. 
-considering strategies to support the patient's return to physical and sporting activity.

Information about the presenter

The high quality of the course is guaranteed by the experience and knowledge of the author and trainer, Dr. Bartosz Wilczyński – a physiotherapist and lecturer at the Gdańsk Medical Academy of Applied Sciences, as well as a researcher at the Department of Immunobiology and Environmental Microbiology at the Medical University of Gdańsk. Additionally, Bartosz Wilczyński, Ph.D., is the author of numerous scientific studies on lower limb biomechanics, knee joint kinematics, musculoskeletal injury prevention, motor training, and dynamic balance. He has participated in and moderated conferences on health and medical sciences, and has also supervised, reviewed, and mentored numerous master's theses of physiotherapy students. He has gained practical experience through many years of physiotherapy work, working primarily with orthopedic patients and amateur and professional athletes.
