A demonstration of specialized equipment for physiotherapy students
At the invitation of the lecturer – Mr. Mirosław Młyński, MA, on December 10, during the „Sports for People with Disabilities” class, we hosted Mr. Rafał Rocki – an athlete, rugby player and participant of the Paralympics in Tokyo, and Mr. Sebastian Górniak – a former kick-boxing competitor and medalist of the Polish Championships in this discipline.
They spoke to physiotherapy students at the University of Health in Gdańsk about their advice on selecting medical and rehabilitation equipment to meet individual patient needs. Our guests discussed their work with people with disabilities, addressing issues related to disability, including obtaining information on funding for orthopedic equipment, selecting the right equipment, rehabilitation programs, professional and sports activation, and assisting in obtaining accident compensation.
We thank Sunrise Medical for their professional presentation of the equipment. The students took advantage of the opportunity to try out the equipment and experience the differences between specific wheelchair models. Practical sessions are key!
The students had many questions. Both Mr. Rafał and Mr. Sebastian emphasized the importance of finding competent and empathetic therapists from the very beginning.
We are pleased that, thanks to meetings like these, we can teach future medical staff key competencies and raise awareness of the human in the patient. We sincerely thank them for their time and the important personal conversations with these physiotherapists.
